Sofax Fluorspar Kenya Ltd is the operator of a 25-year concession to Mine, Mill and Market Acidspar Grade Fluorspar (97% CaF₂) from the Kimwarer area in Kerio Valley — one of the richest fluorspar deposits on the African continent.
In February 2024, the Government of Kenya signed a landmark 25-year contract with Sofax, following the exit of Kenya Fluorspar Company eight years prior. With confirmed commercially viable resources estimated at over 18 million tons, Sofax is reviving Kenya's position as a critical global mineral supplier.
To be the leading integrated company in the fluorochemicals industry in continental Africa.
To contribute to the development of our company, community and country through value addition of fluorochemical products.
Supply Chain: Produce, process and supply markets locally, regionally and internationally.
Value Chain: Promote local beneficiation from primary ore to intermediate and end-market products.
Our integrated business model spans the complete fluorspar value chain — from ore extraction in Kerio Valley to delivery at world markets on three continents.
Sofax operates a fully integrated fluorspar production cycle. Ore is mined from 15 open-pit sites at Kimwarer, processed to 97% CaF₂ acidspar grade at our on-site plant, then exported via Mombasa's deep-water port to steel, chemical, and energy industries globally.
Extraction from 15 open-pit mines within the 9,000-acre Kimwarer concession in Kerio Valley — Kenya's most productive fluorspar belt. Geological surveys confirm over 18 million tons of commercially viable reserves.
State-of-the-art processing facility refurbished via EPC contract with China's Mizztech Group. Our integrated plant crushes, mills, flotates and filters ore to achieve world-standard 97% CaF₂ acidspar purity.
Processed acidspar is transported by road to Kaptagat, then by rail to Mbaraki Wharf, Mombasa for export. Sofax targets global buyers in steel, chemical, aluminium and green-energy manufacturing sectors.
