The Principal Secretary for Mining, Elijah Mwangi, joined Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, HE Hon. Ali Hassan Joho, for a meeting with officials from SOFAX Fluorspar Kenya Ltd.
During the meeting, they received updates on the ongoing revival of the Fluorspar Processing Plant in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
SOFAX Fluorspar Kenya Ltd, the investor leading the revival of the processing plant located in the Keiyo South Constituency of Kimwarer, was officially handed the site on June 30th, with an initial investment of KSh 4.8 billion.
The progress update provided to the Cabinet Secretary included information on geological and environmental studies, as well as the operational aspects of the processing plant. The CS expressed satisfaction with the developments and emphasized that the benefits of this project must extend to the local community. This includes creating employment opportunities, utilizing local materials, and investing in community empowerment programs.



The revival of the Fluorspar Processing Plant reflects our commitment to reforming the sector and promoting mineral investments that prioritize value addition in Kenya. The first shipment of fluorspar is anticipated in March of next year, following the operationalization of the processing plant. Senior officials from the State Department for Mining were also present at the meeting.
