Mining Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai held a strategic meeting with SOFAX Fluorspar Kenya Ltd to chart the revival of the Fluorspar processing plant in Elgeyo Marakwet County

The PS noted that bringing this industry back to life— after operations ceased in 2016 due to low global demand and prices— signals a decisive economic turnaround for the region.

Located at Kimwarer in Kerio Valley, SOFAX is pumping in Kshs 4.8 billion in the first phase to revive the mining operations.

“This project is set to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, boost local businesses and lay the foundation for a new era of mining industrial growth in the country,” Mr. Kimtai said.

The revival of the fluorspar plant will not only position Kenya as a competitive player in the global fluorspar market but also enhance Kenya’s role in the international mineral value chains.
